The Institute for Infectious Diseases performs tasks in teaching and research as well as in diagnostic microbiology in the fields of virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and serological infection clarification. It is the only university institute in Switzerland that combines all microbiological specialties in the field of clinical microbiology under one roof.
Research focus
The Medical Parasitology research group investigates parasitic diseases and their causative agents by harnessing biological knowledge to expand and innovate on current clinical intervention practices and diagnostic possibilities, thereby improving prognosis and treatment outcomes for affected patients. The main projects focus on parasitic protozoan viruses in endemic and emerging parasitic infections in Switzerland and the development of novel diagnostic tools for the detection of parasites such as Giardia lamblia, Strongyloides stercoralis and Echinococcus multilocularis.
Requirements
- Diploma Biology Lab Technician or equivalent education/experience. Candidates with a University Master degree and a clear non-academic research assistant/administration career interest are also invited to apply
- Independent and organized working attitude
- Eager to learn new lab methodology
- Team player
- Experience in cell culture, real-time PCR, cloning and cell transformation
- Good German and English skills
- Experience in ELISA, Western-Blot, protein purification would be an asset
